Cooking Oil Diesel
It has been found that a few of the diesel engines can run on some kind of vegetable oils without creating too much problems though it is not entirely a straightforward process. But gasoline engines cannot work with the oil because the spark is not enough to ignite the fuel. |
The following are the problems with using cooking oil in diesel vehicles as fuel. Vegetable oil is thicker than the conventional diesel which affects the ability of the fuel burning. To reduce viscosity, generally it can be used along with conventional diesel in predetermined proportions and use it in the form of fuel. Another method to reduce this thickness is to heat the oil before using.
Still, it may turn to be problematic since the fuel line would be cold while you start the vehicle initially. To solve this, it is advisable to use 2 tanks for fuel – one filled with conventional diesel and one filled with cooking oil. While you start your vehicle, regular fuel is used until the engine warms up enough to switch over to the other tank containing vegetable oil. A control can be given in the dashboard to switch over between the fuel tanks. The advantage of this is that during long journeys, you can fill in fuel at regular gas station as you may not be able to easily find cooking oil outlets. One more common method to make the vegetable oil flow easily is to mix with a small amount of petroleum (called additive). This would enable the oil to flow even when cold.

Cooking Pasta For A Crowd
Generally, pastas take about 10 minutes to cook properly even in small quantities. While you have to serve pasta for a whole crowd, it may be difficult to find that much time to cook pasta on the spot and serve it hot. To escape this cooking delay, the best approach is to parboil the pasta which involves pre-cooking the pasta partially and storing them in such a way that once you reheat it for about three minutes, they become fully cooked, or al dente as the connoisseurs of pasta would say.
