Cooking Time For Steaks

Filet mignon is considered ‘Queen of Steaks’ and has the best flavor and is easy to prepare. For a 1 - 1 1/2 inch meat, you need to cook for 7 – 10 minutes to get an optimally cooked steak. If the meat is around 1 3/4 - 2 inch thick, it takes anywhere between 10 - 12 minutes to reach the medium cooked stage.

Rib Eye Steak is generally cut from the heart of the prime rib. It is very tender, tasty and juicy. For a 1 inch thick meat, it takes 7 – 10 minutes to cook the steak to reach the medium done stage.

Sirloin Steak takes about 12 – 16 minutes to reach medium doneness for a thickness of 3/4 - 1 1/4 inches. New York Strip Steak is known as the king of steaks. For a thickness of 1 ¼ - 1 ½ inch to reach medium doneness, it takes about 7 – 10 minutes. The Porterhouse Steak takes about 12 – 15 minutes for a thickness of 1 1/4 inch to cook the steak to medium doneness. The T-Bone Steak takes about 12 – 15 minutes to reach the medium done stage for a thickness of 1 ¼ inch.

It is not recommended to cook the steaks mentioned above to the well done stage. Leave for 10 minutes once you remove the steak from the cooking vessel so that the juices get distributed. When the juices start bubbling out of the meat, decide on what doneness you would want to remove the meat and make sure you take it out of the vessel when it is ‘nearly done’.

Fresh thyme and rosemary herbs with olive oil, Worcestershire sauces and some tomato mixed together make a very good blend. For a meat weighing about 500g, you need about half a cup of marinade to get a good flavor. More..
