What Does Florentine Mean In Cooking

Florentine dishes are those which have spinach as one of the principal ingredient. It is widely used in Italy and the name has originated from one of the city named Florence. Florentine recipes also use parsley, rosemary, thyme and basil. Regional Florentine delicacies include boar and rabbit meats. Some of the recipes also include beef and seafood varieties.

The Florentine cooking style includes use of green olives, olive oil and also sauces which are primarily tomato based. Other garden ingredients include Artichokes, beans, potatoes, mushrooms, melon, chestnuts, pumpkin and broccoli. Dishes rich in egg and creamy sauces make it tastier.

For getting authentic taste in the Florentine dishes, use lush green crispy spinach leaves which do not have yellow spots. Do not store it for a long time as it loses its freshness and also the nutrients. Remove thick veins and spinach stems and wash it thoroughly and remove dirt. Use raw spinach in salads or steam it slightly for five to seven minutes. You can also blanch it by immersing briefly in boiling water and then again immersing in ice water to enhance its flavor.

Some of the typical Florentine dishes include Bruschetta where toasted bread slices are topped with a variety of sauces. Bistecca is a typical Florentine dish which is grilled with herbal aromatic flavors. Other popular dishes include Cheese Manicotti Florentine, Chicken Florentine, Eggs Florentine, Creamed Beef Florentine, Florentine Baked Tomatoes, Fish Fillet Florentine, Tomato Florentine Soup, Mushrooms Florentine, Florentine Lasagna, Seafood Lasagna Florentine, Scrambled Tofu Florentine, Soybean A La Florentine and Shells Florentine.
