Low Cost Healthy Eating Guide

Owing to the fast paced life and highly demanding work environments, people are finding it even more difficult to cook a wholesome meal for the entire family.

As a result, they have begun to depend on convenience food which involves very little cooking or readymade food which simply needs to be reheated before cooking. But these food items simply lack any form of nutrients and are not healthy enough, especially considering the high level of preservatives used to extend the shelf life of such types of foods. Also, they are extremely expensive.

Here are some ideas for a healthy diet on a low budget.

Plan the menu ahead of a week and prepare a grocery list for this menu. Shop in advance and stock these items. Segregate the necessary items from optional items. At times of a tight budget, you can always cut the optional items. If you find some staple item that is extremely cheap, buy it in bulk and freeze it for future use.

Consult friends or relatives to find some simple and cheap recipes that you can have once a week. Add variety to your menu and spice them up with surprise treats now and then. Learn to limit waste and cook only as much as is required at one single meal time. If you are pressed on time, you can simply prepare a large quantity of the item and freeze it in individual portions for quick meals later. Leftovers can be packed up neatly, reheated and consumed on the following day.
