Fast Foods Are Bad For You

Quality of any food item depends on its utility in terms of nutrients and calories provided to the body. Fast food can be explained as any food item that is quick to make, convenient to handle and inexpensive to buy.

One could buy fast foods at any place including bakeries, fast food restaurants and places that sell snacks. These foods are inexpensive because they are mostly made with ingredients that are cheap and less in nutrients. Fast foods contain lots of unhealthy fats, cholesterol, calories, sugar and salt. Many fast foods are usually cooked in oil and don’t contain any fruits, vegetables or whole-grain products.
Some common foods that fall into fast food category include pizzas, burgers, fried chicken, potato chips, French fries and tacos.
- Eating a diet that largely contains fast foods could result in conditions like obesity and overweight. Both these are the biggest risk factors for other health complications including hypertension, coronary heart diseases and diabetes.
- People consuming fast foods do not actually gain any muscle or bone weight. Instead, it is the tummy that increases in size resulting in various digestion related complications such as indigestion, bloating, gas, constipation and diarrhea.
- Fast foods lack essential elements such as proteins, fiber, vitamins and minerals. This results in reduced levels of nutrients inside the body resulting in weakness and other nutritional disorders.
- A healthy, balanced and well-cooked diet suffices the required sodium levels inside the body. However, many fast foods are rich in salt. Excessive sodium concentration in the foods can lead to hypertension.
- Fast foods that are rich in sugar are harmful for the health. In the body, excess sugar is converted into fat and stored in adipose tissue. This creates problems over a course of time.
- Another major risk of fast foods is food poisoning. Foods that are not properly cooked are not good for consumption.
