Old Fashion Popcorn Recipe

Popcorn is being made for ages in the world. Making popcorn in the old fashioned method is very easy. It is quick and easy process, and above all, it can be a lot of fun. Popcorn is always made from dry kernels of corn. Corn has a high source of fiber and is low in calories. If it is made according to your taste, it can be a great source of nutrition. If you make the popcorn at home rather than buying the pre-packaged stuff, you will definitely save money. In addition, this snack will be filling, healthy and makes the best snack while watching television. You can make your own popcorn using a saucepan from your kitchen.

If you are buying the corn kernels in a supermarket, make sure you pick up the oldest packet. The older the better, because they will be completely dry and ready for use. Also well dried out corn kernels make bigger popcorns. Take a pot, and make sure it suits the quantity because when the corn bursts open they tend to fill up the vessel very fast. Also the pot should have a lid that fits in. take the oil of your choice; it can be coconut oil, peanut, canola, or olive oil. You can also use melted butter if you like but the healthiest option would be to use olive oil.

To make old fashion popcorn, you will require around half a cup of corn kernel, some vegetable oil, around 4 tablespoons of butter, salt to taste and a pan with a lid. This recipe just requires 10 minutes of cooking time.

Pour the oil in the pan and allow it to heat on high flame. Make sure you choose a heavy bottom pan, so that the corn does not get burnt. Keep the heat between medium and high. Add three kernels and place the lid on the pan. When the three kernels pop, then you know that the pan is ready.

Add the remaining corn and cover the lid. Shake the pan and make sure the lid is on. While shaking the pan you will hear many popping sounds. Once the frequency of popping reduces or stops, it is time to remove the saucepan from the flame.

If you want to add butter, melt it separately and drizzle it over the popcorn when it is hot. You can also add some spices and herbs to the butter and mix it up before drizzling it.

Take a large bowl and sprinkle salt over the popcorn. Shake it up thoroughly, so that the salt is evenly spread and serve the popcorn while it is still hot.
